"A charming and funny celebration of Americana." -- N.Y.Times
The Off Broadway SMASH-HIT
The Great Depression is coming to an end and the Sanders Family Singers are back on the road. Okay, so the bus just broke down, the twins are fighting again, Uncle Stanley's fresh out of prison, and sister June can't really sing... but believe us, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church will never be the same!
Smoke on the Mountain will take you back to a simpler time, 1938, where your group becomes the congregation of the Mount Pleasant Church. You are invited to their “first-ever Saturday Night Sing,” where Pastor Oglethorpe is bound and determined to move his flock into the “modern world.”
You’ll be thrilled to hear the Sanders family renditions of some of the best old gospel tunes ever written, like “Church in the Wildwood,” “Wonderful Time Up There,” “I’ll Fly Away,” as well as some you may have never heard before.
Country music superstar Mel Tillis says “I believe Smoke on the Mountain is the finest collection of great old time gospel music combined with hilarious comedy that you will find anywhere!”
Originally produced by the McCarter Theatre Company of Princeton, New Jersey, Smoke on the Mountain ran twice to thunderous applause at off-Broadway’s Lamb’s Theatre in New York City. It has now become one of the most produced shows in the country.
"Smoke on the Mountain" is presented through special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc,. 45 West 25th Street, New York, NY 10010-2751
